Social Health in the Perspective of the UGM Rector

At the opening of UGM’s 76th Anniversary, the Rector of UGM emphasized the importance of social health. A healthy person is the capital for achievement and good interaction, even in preparing for future life. Health itself is a very broad aspect. Some people understand health only as physical health, but health also includes mental or spiritual well-being. In addition, there is also social health. Social health is important because social interaction is now developing not only face-to-face but also through various media, including social media, and its development is extraordinarily unstoppable. Sometimes we are surprised that all social media seem to provide good effects, but in fact, over time, social media has changed the way we see ourselves and how we interact. This has even become a new source of health problems, for example through irresponsible or problematic statements that disturb people’s mental health. If mental health is disturbed, then physical health is also affected.

The series of events for the opening of UGM’s 76th Anniversary was enlivened by group exercise, Posbindu activities, dental health check-ups, angklung performances, tari angguk presented by the UGM academic community, and various door prizes.
