75th UGM Anniversary Tennis Tournament: Fostering Togetherness Among the Academic Community

A series of events to commemorate the 75th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and its 15th Lustrum have begun. As part of the celebrations, the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) organized a tennis tournament that brought together lecturers, administrative staff, and retired employees. The two-day event, held on Saturday-Sunday (9-10 November), was led by Drg. Asikin Nur, M.Kes, Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Biomedical Dentistry, as the event's chief organizer.

The tournament was officially opened by the Chairman of the UGM Tennis Association, Prof. Dr. Kuncoro Harto Widodo, S.T.P., M.Eng., who symbolically hit a tennis ball toward the center of the court. The event was also attended by a university representative, Prof. Dr. Wahyudi Kumorotomo, M.P.P., Secretary of the UGM Council of Professors.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Wahyudi emphasized that the tennis tournament was not intended as a competitive event but rather as an opportunity to strengthen friendships among UGM's academic community, including lecturers, administrative staff, and retired employees.

drg. Asikin further stated that the primary goal of the tournament was not victory but fostering camaraderie and strengthening relationships among the university community.

"We hope this event serves as a platform for getting to know each other, sharing experiences, and maintaining health. We want all participants to enjoy this moment of togetherness," he said.

The tournament featured 48 participants, divided into four teams: Wisdom Park, GSP, Balairung, and Boulevard. Teams were assigned based on players' skill levels to ensure balanced participation.

The Boulevard team emerged as the champion, followed by the Wisdom Park team as the runner-up. The GSP and Balairung teams secured third and fourth places, respectively. The tournament received positive feedback from lecturers, staff, and retired employees in attendance.

This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. It is hoped that this annual tournament will continue to strengthen bonds within the UGM community while promoting a spirit of unity and healthy living among all members of the university family.
