Technological advancements are increasingly making it easier for students to produce scientific work. One of the latest innovations that can be utilized by postgraduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), is Scopus AI, an artificial intelligence–based feature integrated with Elsevier’s Scopus database.
The Coordinator of the FKG UGM Library, Desy Natalia Anggorowati, S.IP, explained that Scopus AI helps students explore scientific literature more quickly and efficiently. “Students can submit questions in natural language, for example in Indonesian, and the system will then provide summaries in English, display research trends, and show relationships between topics based on millions of scientific publications available in Scopus,” she explained on Friday (24/10).
To access Scopus AI, postgraduate students can log in through two methods, namely via the UGM Library and Archives website (lib.ugm.ac.id) or through ezproxy.ugm.ac.id. After logging in using a UGM SSO account, users can select the Scopus database and then type their question or research topic into the Ask Scopus AI column.
According to Desy, this feature offers many benefits for students. “Scopus AI can help identify relevant scientific references, understand current research trends, and compile literature reviews supported by strong sources. Students can also identify influential authors or journals in their fields,” she said.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the use of AI tools such as Scopus AI can enhance the quality of scientific writing, provided they are used ethically and critically. “AI is only a supporting tool. Students still need to verify the validity of primary sources, develop their own arguments, and write with academic integrity,” she stressed.
With the introduction of Scopus AI, the FKG UGM Library hopes that students will find it easier to develop high-quality research and support an academic culture grounded in data and scientific honesty.
