The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) considers it important to prepare its academic community to welcome the holy month of Ramadan while maintaining a balance between workplace professionalism and worship. This message was conveyed by Saijan, S.Ag., M.Pd., during a regular Islamic lecture organized by the Islamic Communication Forum (FKI) on Tuesday, February 4, 2026.
At the beginning of his talk, Ustaz Saijan emphasized that readiness for fasting should begin with proper health management, including maintaining a balanced pre-dawn meal (suhoor) to ensure the body remains fit and productive during work activities.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining communication ethics in the workplace. Guarding one’s speech, avoiding unproductive behavior, and refraining from gossip are essential aspects of preserving the quality of one’s fast.
“Especially in the era of social media, we must control what we consume. Be wise in engaging with social media content so it does not diminish the value of our worship,” he said.
To optimize worship amid work commitments, Saijan encouraged members of the FKG UGM academic community to create balanced daily schedules that integrate professional responsibilities and spiritual practices. Utilizing break times for meaningful acts of worship can make Ramadan activities more fulfilling.
On the same occasion, the Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. Suryono, who attended virtually, emphasized the importance of being mindful of time. He stated that Ramadan serves as a moment of reflection, encouraging the academic community not only to focus on work routines but also to strengthen their spiritual lives.
Prof. Suryono also reminded attendees of the rapid flow of information on social media and the development of artificial intelligence, urging them to practice tabayyun—verifying information before believing or sharing it—while maintaining critical thinking.
“I hope forums like this become spaces for strengthening Islamic values while ensuring that professional work continues in harmony with moral and spiritual integrity, especially during Ramadan,” he concluded.
