Fissure Sealing Practicum Using Unfilled Composite Resin

Third-semester students of the Dental Medicine Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully conducted the Fissure Sealing Practicum using Unfilled Composite Resin at the Harkati Dewanto Phantom Laboratory on Tuesday, 20 August 2024. This practicum aimed to equip future dentists with the skills to prevent dental caries, particularly in children.

Fissure Sealing is an effective preventive procedure that involves sealing pits and fissures on the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth using unfilled composite resin. This method prevents food particles from getting trapped, reducing plaque formation and caries development.

This practicum reflects UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

By providing practical clinical training, the Faculty of Dentistry at UGM strives to enhance the quality of education and public health, aligning with the university’s vision to produce highly skilled healthcare professionals who contribute positively to society.
