In an increasingly advanced digital era, healthcare professionals, including orthodontists, must understand the legal and ethical aspects of using social media. Recognizing this need, the Orthodontics Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM) organized a webinar titled “Professionalism Ethics in Digitalization of Educational Content for Orthodontists” on Saturday, 10 August 2024.
Held via Zoom, the webinar was attended by orthodontic residents and specialist orthodontists. The keynote speaker, Dr. Sundoyo, SH. MKM. M.Hum, an Expert Staff to the Minister for Health Law at the Indonesian Ministry of Health, delivered a presentation on the “Medico-Legal Aspect of Social Media Implementation.”
In his presentation, Dr. Sundoyo discussed various legal and ethical issues that orthodontists must consider when using social media. He emphasized the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality, avoiding misleading promotions, and being accountable for the content shared online.
This webinar is part of the Orthodontics Department’s community service initiatives at FKG UGM. Through these activities, the Orthodontics Program is committed to enhancing the professionalism of orthodontists, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by the digital age.
With a better understanding of the legal and ethical aspects of social media usage, orthodontists are expected to use these platforms wisely and responsibly, ultimately benefiting the broader community.
