Prof. Wiratni: Encouraging the Development of Dental Health Products Based on Indonesia’s Local Potential

OPENING OF BKGN 2025

Yogyakarta, 1 December 2025 — The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), once again held a large-scale community service program that received full appreciation from the university leadership. The event, which partnered with PT Unilever Indonesia as the main collaborator, was officially opened by Prof. Ir. Wiratni, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM, representing the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations of UGM.

In her remarks, Prof. Wiratni expressed appreciation for FKG UGM’s consistency in implementing educational programs and dental health services for the community. She emphasized that such activities reflect UGM’s people-oriented character, prioritizing social benefits and impact.

“This activity is truly outstanding and strongly reflects community service. This is characteristic of UGM as a people-oriented university, and of course, it is inseparable from the support of Unilever as a partner that has supported programs like this for many years,” she stated.

Although she opened her speech with humor about her fear of dentists, Prof. Wiratni stressed that the dental education and prevention programs conducted are highly relevant to the broader community. The high level of public enthusiasm, as reported by the organizing committee and Unilever representatives, proves that the need for dental health information and services remains significant.

Furthermore, Prof. Wiratni highlighted that FKG UGM excels not only in community service but also in innovation development based on local materials. She noted that this opens wider collaboration opportunities with Unilever, particularly in research and development of dental care products.

“UGM hopes that in the future there will be more collaborations, including the development of dental health products based on Indonesia’s local potential. In this way, the benefits extend not only to public health but also to economic empowerment through the development of local biodiversity,” she explained.

Closing her remarks, Prof. Wiratni reaffirmed the commitment of the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations to continue supporting FKG UGM programs that have a direct impact on society. She expressed hope that similar activities will continue, expand, and contribute meaningfully to national dental health.

“May UGM’s impact be increasingly felt in society through excellent activities like this. We are ready to support the development of future programs,” she concluded.
