UKMP2DG Serves as Quality Control to Produce Competent Dentists

The implementation of the Dental Professional Program Student Competency Examination (UKMP2DG) is an important step in ensuring that graduates of dental education programs in Indonesia possess the abilities and knowledge in accordance with professional standards. According to drg. I Gede Andyka Yasa, M.Biomed, as the Supervisor of the UKMP2DG Center, this examination functions as a form of quality control for prospective dentists before they enter community practice.

“UKMP2DG ensures that students who have completed their professional education are truly competent to become dentists,” said drg. Andyka when met at the Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, on Saturday (1/11). Through this examination, he continued, it is possible to determine the extent of graduates’ capabilities and readiness in facing real situations in the field of dental health services.

To date, UKMP2DG remains the main reference for assessing the competence of prospective dentists in Indonesia. The examination serves as a benchmark for the success of professional education and as a guarantee that every graduate has the same standard of competence, regardless of where they pursued their education.

As one of the UKMP2DG examination centers, FKG UGM is considered to have carried out all stages of the examination in accordance with national standards. “All processes at FKG UGM have complied with the Standard Operating Procedures established by the national committee, from preparation to the implementation of the examination. The procedures are orderly and meet the standards,” he explained.

In the current examination period, a total of 41 FKG UGM students participated in the nationally conducted UKMP2DG. All participants undertook the examination under strict supervision to ensure objectivity and the integrity of the results.

drg. Andyka also advised students who will be taking the UKMP2DG to prepare themselves as thoroughly as possible, both in terms of theory and practice. “The examination material covers the entire educational process, from the undergraduate program to the professional stage. Therefore, students should review the key points of each course they have studied,” he advised.

The examination consists of two components: a Computer Based Test (CBT) to measure theoretical knowledge, and an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to assess practical skills. Both are designed to ensure that prospective dentists not only master knowledge, but are also able to apply it in patient care.
