Healthy Teeth Awareness Campaign at SD Bakti Insan

The Department of Conservative Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) organized a dental health awareness campaign at SD Bakti Insan, Yogyakarta. This initiative aimed to educate children about the importance of maintaining oral hygiene from an early age. Held on 29 October 2024, the event featured Drg. Fajar Satrio as the keynote speaker, who provided direct education to students.

The event began with an opening speech from drg. Fajar Satrio, emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene through simple daily habits such as regular brushing. “We want to educate children so they understand that taking care of their teeth early on will have a significant impact on their future health,” said drg. Fajar. Additionally, students were taught the proper techniques for brushing their teeth, selecting the right toothpaste, and understanding the negative effects of excessive consumption of sugary foods.

Beyond theoretical lessons, students also had the opportunity to ask direct questions about dental issues they experience. To make learning more engaging, students who answered questions correctly received dental care kits as prizes. The event incorporated educational games, making learning fun and encouraging children to maintain their oral hygiene.

This initiative reflects FKG UGM’s commitment to community contribution and efforts to improve dental health awareness. Through such activities, the importance of regular dental check-ups and preventive measures, such as avoiding cavities, can be more widely promoted. “We aim to instill healthy oral care habits early so these children can grow up with healthy smiles,” added drg. Fajar.

By taking an interactive and engaging approach, this event highlights FKG UGM’s role in promoting public health education, particularly for children. The long-term goal is to create a lasting positive impact on community health.

This initiative also contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by raising public awareness about dental health and Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing essential knowledge to children and the community.
