To become a dentist, several phases of education must be completed. The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) recently conducted the Entry Exam Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) on 13 August 2024, at the Dental Learning Center.
The exam was attended by 24 dental graduates from the Bachelor of Dental Medicine program who are advancing to the dentist professional education level. Of these, 6 are male students and 18 are female students.
Dr. drg. Rurie Ratna Shantiningsih, MD.Sc, Head of the Dentist Professional Program, stated that the purpose of this exam is to screen students who are truly prepared and possess the necessary competencies to become a dentist. "The exam process consists of various practical tests that participants must complete alternately at 12 different exam stations," said Drg. Rurie.
During the OSCE exam, each student is accompanied by an examiner who monitors and evaluates their performance. Students must complete practical tasks at each station using a dental phantom. The results are then recorded by the examiner on an evaluation form.
With the completion of this Entry Exam, participants who pass will be eligible to continue their studies in the dentist professional program, also known as clinical internship (co-ass). They will undergo approximately two years of professional education before officially being appointed as dentists.
