As part of National Dental Health Month (BKGN) 2024, FKG UGM organized the School Health Program (SHP) roadshow at SLBN 2 Yogyakarta on Monday, 28 October 2024. This program aimed to raise students' awareness about the importance of dental health, with education delivered directly by teacher cadre members. During the event, students learned about the benefits of maintaining oral hygiene and proper tooth-brushing techniques.
The Department of Dental Biomaterials (IBKG) supported this SHP initiative by sending three lecturers: Prof. Dr. drg. Siti Sunarintyas, M.Kes, Dr. drg. Dyah Irnawati, MS, and Dr. drg. Friska Ani Rahman, M.DSc. According to Drg. Friska, the students showed great enthusiasm in participating in the guided tooth-brushing training led by school cadres. "The teacher cadre members also shared that tooth-brushing activities have become a daily routine at this school under teacher supervision," she said.
One of the teachers and cadre members, Bu Astuti, explained that every morning, the cadre team encourages students to brush their teeth together before lessons begin. "This is our commitment to preventing cavities among students," she stated.
The Chair of BKGN UGM 2024, Drg. Silviana Farrah Diba, Sp.RKG(K), expressed appreciation to the teachers and cadres and suggested expanding dental health education to students' parents. The school has also been equipped with educational materials, including posters, flip charts, and dental models, to support similar initiatives in the future.
Through the School Health Program, FKG UGM contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) – by promoting oral health from an early age; Goal 4 (Quality Education) – by providing structured health education in schools; and Goal 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal) – by fostering collaboration between universities and schools.
