Orthodontic Residents of FKG UGM Enhance Presentation Skills at Orthonigma Seminar

Yogyakarta, 13-14 December 2024 - The Orthonigma Seminar, organized by the Orthodontic Residents of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), took place at The Rich Hotel Yogyakarta as a platform for professional development and communication skills enhancement. With the theme “Advancement in Orthodontics”the event gathered orthodontic residents and specialist orthodontists to exchange knowledge and experiences.

The oral presentation sessions were a key highlight of the seminar, where orthodontic residents presented their research findings and clinical cases before a panel of experts and fellow participants. This session not only helped residents deepen their understanding of orthodontic concepts but also provided an opportunity to hone their ability to communicate information effectively—a crucial skill in the medical field, particularly in patient interactions.

The expert panel provided constructive feedback on each presentation, emphasizing the importance of clear and engaging delivery to enhance audience comprehension. Residents utilized visual aids, such as presentation slides and dental models, to support their explanations.

Beyond the presentations, the seminar facilitated discussions on clinical challenges, treatment techniques, and the latest orthodontic approaches. These discussions enriched participants with new insights and learning experiences.

Orthonigma also served as a networking platform for residents, alumni, and orthodontic practitioners. The interactions throughout the seminar opened doors for collaborations in research and clinical practice, aligning with FKG UGM’s commitment to advancing orthodontic professional development.

Through this event, FKG UGM reaffirmed its dedication to producing competent orthodontic specialists, not only in technical expertise but also in communication skills. The seminar contributed to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – by improving oral healthcare services; SDG 4: Quality Education – through high-quality training and curriculum; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – by encouraging innovative approaches in orthodontic treatments; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by fostering collaborations among orthodontic professionals. It is hoped that the experiences gained during this seminar will enhance residents' capabilities in delivering the best possible care for patients in the future.
