Opening of UGM’s 76th Anniversary: Healthy Campus, Pillar of Independence and National Resilience

29 August 2025 — The committee for UGM’s 76th Anniversary was entrusted to the health cluster, namely the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing. This year’s anniversary celebration carries the theme Healthy Campus, Pillar of Independence and National Resilience. The theme was chosen not merely as a slogan but as a reflection of the importance of comprehensive health development—physical, mental, social, and environmental—within the campus as an implementation of the Health Promoting University concept. UGM believes that a healthy campus will give birth to a resilient young generation, competitive, and ready to face the dynamics of the times.

In the context of holistic health, physical, mental, social, and environmental aspects serve as a strong foundation for realizing national independence and resilience. As the opening momentum of the anniversary series, this event was filled with various activities followed by health check-ups and blood donations as a manifestation of the health needs of the UGM community. The anniversary activities will begin with online training and certification for health cadres, the UGM Trail Run, internal sports competitions, as well as sports activities such as volleyball, football, and badminton.

In the academic field, a national seminar on health will be held. In addition, awards will be presented through the Insan Berprestasi recognition, while the cultural festivities will be enlivened with performing arts such as sendratari, wayang kulit, and an alumni gathering night. The peak of the celebration will be marked by the rector’s annual report, a scientific oration, and the UGM Award ceremony. Through this series of events, UGM’s 76th Anniversary is expected not only to be a celebratory moment but also a strategic momentum to strengthen UGM’s role as a national university committed to health, independence, and national resilience. Hopefully, the opening of UGM’s 76th Anniversary will be a good start for the entire series of events, a source of inspiration, and a reaffirmation of UGM’s steps in producing a healthy, independent, and resilient next generation for a better Indonesia.

“Health is not only physical but also spiritual and social,” stated UGM Rector Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D. Social health, she explained, is something very important and is now part of global interaction. Social media can become a trigger for health issues that can erode us. The Rector of UGM is optimistic that the series of the 76th Anniversary will embody the spirit for UGM’s growth process in creating a healthy and impactful campus environment.
