On Friday, 12 August, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), conducted a training session for Research Ethics Committee reviewers. This event occurred on 11-12 August 2022 at the Working Space Area on the 2nd floor of the Dental Learning Center, FKG UGM. The session began with singing the Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," and the Gadjah Mada University Hymn, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of FKG UGM, drg. Suryono, SH, MM, Ph.D. In his address, the Dean stated, "This training is critically important as it enhances knowledge of research ethics and laws for every researcher. We hope that through this training, obstacles encountered in previous research endeavors can be minimized."
The training was attended by 51 participants, including internal reviewers of the Research Ethics Committee from FKG and Prof. Soedomo Dental Hospital (RSGM) UGM, reviewers from hospitals in DIY and Central Java, and reviewers from FKGs collaborating with UGM, such as Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar and Universitas Hang Tuah Surabaya.
Organized by the Dentistry Skills Development Center (DSDC) at FKG UGM, the event featured distinguished speakers, including Prof. dr. Madarina Julia, Sp. A(K)., MPH, Ph.D., Dr.dr. Eti Nurwening S., M.Med., M.Kes., drg. Lisa R. Amir., Ph.D., dr. Arief Budiyanto, Ph.D., Sp.KK., drh. Sitarina Widyarini, MP., Ph.D., and drg. Ryna Yanuaryska, Ph.D.
The second training day focused on preparing for certification from the Forum for Ethical Review Committees in the Asian and Western Pacific Region (FERCAP), led by drg. Lisa R. Amir., Ph.D., followed by discussions among internal reviewers of the Research Ethics Committee from FKG and RSGM Prof. Soedomo UGM. These discussions covered the documents used in the research proposal review process.
