To commence the activities of the new academic year, 89 students of the 2022 Postgraduate Program attended a public lecture on Monday (5/9) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM in Margono Soerjadi Building. This event was in-person and included the Faculty's Postgraduate Program instructors.
The event began with an opening address by drg. Suryono, Ph.D., S.H., MM., as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM. In his speech, he congratulated the postgraduate students who chose FKG UGM for their studies. "Welcome, and congratulations on starting your studies, dear new students. FKG aims to educate intelligent generations like robots and competent and morally sound individuals." He then introduced the lecturers who will be conducting the teaching activities in the Postgraduate Program at FKG UGM.
In addition to familiarizing themselves with the Faculty of Dentistry UGM, new postgraduate program students were invited to understand UGM's core values alongside Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Geography. This aligns with the theme of this event, 'Strengthening UGM Values in Facing the Fourth Industrial Revolution.’.
Through his presentation, Dr. Danang discussed Indonesia's current demographic bonus, which poses various challenges and opportunities for the younger generation in quantity.
The current challenge for Indonesia is to enhance the quality of its productive-age generation to compete globally. Therefore, as students who are part of this productive-age population, the hope is that they will continuously hone their skills and contribute positively to society. They are also expected to be problem solvers for the challenges facing Indonesia.
Being open to the changing world and moving towards the industrial revolution is also a primary focus for students. The dynamic demands of skills and requirements in the job market necessitate an adaptive mentality, especially amidst rapid technological disruptions across various sectors, including Dental Medicine.
It is hoped that through this event, students can actualize UGM's values and contribute meaningfully to society. For instance, Prof. Koesnadi's mentorship of Andrianus Mooy serves as an example of contributing to education.
The event concluded with a presentation about HMPKG (Association of Postgraduate Students of Dentistry) by drg. Rahmadhani Puspitasari, the chairperson of HMPKG.
