To begin the new academic year, 89 students from the 2022 Postgraduate Program attended an open lecture on Monday (5/9) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM, Margono Soeraji Building. This event was held in person and invited the lecturers of the Postgraduate Program.
The event was opened with remarks from Drg. Suryono, Ph.D., S.H., M.M., the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM. In his speech, he congratulated the postgraduate students who chose FKG UGM as their place of study. "Welcome and good luck to the new students. FKG aims not only to produce intelligent generations like robots but also competent and moral ones," he said. He then introduced the lecturers who will be teaching the Postgraduate Program at FKG UGM.
In addition to familiarizing the students with the Faculty of Dentistry UGM, the new postgraduate students were also invited to understand UGM's values with Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., the Dean of the Faculty of Geography. This aligns with the theme of the event: "Strengthening the Identity of UGM Values in Facing the Industry 4.0 Revolution.".
Through his presentation, Dr. Danang discussed Indonesia's current demographic bonus, which in terms of quantity will certainly present both challenges and opportunities for the younger generation.
One of the challenges Indonesia faces today is improving the quality of the productive-age generation to compete globally. As students who are part of the productive-age population, the expectation is that they will continue to hone their abilities and bring about positive changes in society. They should also be problem-solvers for the issues currently faced by Indonesia.
Adapting to the rapidly changing world, especially the revolution in industry, is also a key focus for students. The dynamic nature of required skills and demands in the workforce necessitates an adaptive mindset. Moreover, technological disruptions are advancing rapidly across various sectors, including Dentistry.
It is hoped that through this activity, students will be able to realize UGM's values and contribute to the betterment of society, just as Prof. Koesnadi contributed by mentoring Andrianus Mooy and supporting his education.
The event concluded with a presentation on HMPKG (Postgraduate Dental Students Association) by Drg. Rahmadhani Puspitasari, the head of HMPKG.
