Red Bags of Life Savers

Yogyakarta, 19 July 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held a blood donation event titled "Senyum Sensasi," which took place in the Atrium of the OECF Building, FKG UGM, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and health checkups among the academic community of FKG UGM.

The event was a collaboration between FKG UGM and Universitas Gadjah Mada Hospital (RSA UGM) as part of the "RSA GOES TO CAMPUS" program.

Firda Cahya, a representative from the Health Promotion Unit (HPU) of FKG UGM, explained, "This event is not just about collecting blood, but also promoting a healthy lifestyle through exercise programs and health checkups."

With the theme "Red Bags of Life Savers," the event invited students, lecturers, staff, and alumni to participate in saving lives through blood donation.

The term "Red Bags" here refers to blood donation bags, not firefighter bags or plastic bags. It symbolizes the collected blood that will help patients in need of transfusions.

The event was attended by various healthcare professionals from RSA UGM, including doctors, nurses, and blood donation staff, who were ready to provide excellent services throughout the donation process. Additionally, older participants were encouraged to undergo regular health checkups to monitor their well-being.

This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages.

According to Firda, "Participation in blood donation is a significant contribution to public health, and we hope this event raises awareness of social responsibility in maintaining health."

With the success of this event, it is hoped that the number of blood bags collected will positively impact patients in need, especially those suffering from chronic illnesses or facing emergency situations.

"The blood bags we collected today, which we call 'Red Bags,' will be immensely valuable to those in need of transfusions," Firda added.

The "Senyum Sensasi" event concluded with a heartfelt thanks to all participants and volunteers involved. This activity highlighted the importance of collaboration between the faculty and hospital in creating health awareness and strengthening the collective responsibility of the academic community.

Through events like this, FKG UGM not only emphasizes the importance of blood donation but also sets a real example of how health awareness can save lives and promote well-being for all.

"We hope that in the future, more similar activities will raise public awareness and improve public health," Firda concluded.

Thus, the "Senyum Sensasi" event at FKG UGM not only demonstrated a spirit of public service but also took a tangible step in supporting the SDGs, particularly in ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all.
