Amid growing demands to improve higher education quality and increasingly competitive accreditation standards, a portfolio document is no longer merely an administrative complement. It has evolved into a key instrument that demonstrates accountability and an institution’s commitment to maintaining the quality of learning.
Addressing this challenge, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held a Workshop on Portfolio Development for Specialist Dental Education Program (PPDGS) on Wednesday, 28 May 2025. The event is part of a systematic effort to strengthen internal quality assurance while also preparing for the accreditation process.
In her remarks, Prof. drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FKG UGM, emphasized the importance of portfolios as a strategic tool in managing study programs. “A portfolio is not just documentation of learning activities but also a reflection of learning achievements and academic accountability. Its development must be based on an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum to truly measure the quality of graduates,” she explained.
Prof. Rosa also highlighted that portfolio preparation will help study programs in compiling self-evaluation reports while supporting planning, implementation, and continuous improvement processes. “Through portfolios, we can measure how far the educational process aligns with the established standards, both nationally and internationally,” she added.
The workshop was attended by program heads, course coordinators, teaching staff, and academic administrators from all specialist programs at FKG UGM. The event was divided into several sessions: the first on the concept of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) delivered by drg. Fimma Naritasari, MDSc.; followed by a session on implementation and utilization of the SIOBA-based academic information system presented by drg. Aryan Morita, MSc., Ph.D.; and concluded with a discussion on assessment systems in specialist dental education by drg. Yanuarti Retnaningrum, Sp.Ort(K).
This activity is expected to produce a draft portfolio ready for use in accreditation processes and serve as a reference for ongoing quality evaluation. FKG UGM reaffirms its commitment to promoting academic practices that are transparent, measurable, and aligned with global standards in specialist dental education.
