FKG UGM has graduated new cohorts from the Postgraduate Program, ready to serve the nation in the October 2023 graduation period. A total of 43 male and female graduates included 1 doctoral graduate from the Oral Medicine Program, 2 master's graduates in Dental Science, 4 graduates from the Specialist Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 7 graduates from the Specialist Program in Pediatric Dentistry, 5 graduates from the Specialist Program in Prosthodontics, 1 graduate from the Specialist Program in Periodontology, 16 graduates from the Specialist Program in Conservative Dentistry, and 7 graduates from the Specialist Program in Orthodontics. They were honored through a Graduation Celebration on Wednesday (25/10) last week.
The Dean of FKG UGM inaugurated the graduation ceremony, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D. The names of the graduates were read by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D., FISDPH.FISPD, followed by the presentation of graduation books and the pinning of alum pins to the graduates by the Heads of their respective Study Programs, with a few words spoken by the graduates represented by Dr. drg. Kusuma Arbianti, MM.
"What we have achieved so far is faith in FKG UGM as the Candradimuka Cauldron: a space, a vessel widely available to seek knowledge, experience, and lessons about life," said Dr. drg. Kusuma Arbianti, MM, is also the sole graduate from the doctoral program in Dental Science in the October period in her address.
"On this occasion, I express my gratitude and apologies as efforts to obtain blessings and smoothness in our journey towards success in the future," she continued. She also expressed gratitude to the professors, doctors, and all faculty members of FKG UGM who tirelessly imparted knowledge to the students.
Dr. drg. Sri Budi Barunawati, M.Kes., Sp.Pros(K), Head of the Prosthodontics Specialist Program, congratulated and imparted a message to the graduates in her speech. "To the male and female graduates, remember that this degree is not the end of a journey but the beginning of a great and challenging journey. Our nation needs graduates who are not only of high quality but also possess deep social sensitivity and empathy."
"Be exemplary figures that inspire wherever you are and always uphold the good name of our beloved alma mater. Continue to develop yourselves because knowledge in the field of dental medicine evolves rapidly. Keep learning to enhance your skills because the challenges ahead will not be easy," she added.
Furthermore, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., the Dean of FKG UGM, expressed his pride in the graduates. "Out of these 43 graduates, 28 received cum laude honors. Moreover, the average GPA of these twenty-eight graduates is above 3.9."
He also provided guidance through several Javanese proverbs that have been philosophies and guiding principles of Javanese society for centuries. "Urip iku urup, memayu hayuning bawana. Sura dira jayaningrat lebur dening pangasuti. Ngluruk tanpa bala, sekti tanpa aji-aji, menang tanpa ngasorake, sugih tanpa bandha. Datan serik lamun ketaman, datan susah lamun kelangan."
"Now that you have specialist degrees, whether master's or doctoral degrees, you must be able to benefit others," he emphasized.
