UGM Dentistry Residents Excel in the 2025 National Orthodontics OSCE Examination

At the National Orthodontics Specialist Competency Examination held on 12 July 2025 at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, residents from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada once again achieved outstanding success—this time in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) component. Two UGM residents earned national rankings: drg. Iga Putri Imansari secured 4th place, while drg. Alissa Shella Destayrrum achieved 5th place in this category that emphasizes clinical accuracy and practical skills.

The OSCE is a crucial component of competency assessment as it evaluates participants’ ability to handle clinical cases directly through standardized stations. Participants are tested on aspects such as diagnosis, treatment planning, communication skills, clinical maneuvers, and management of orthodontic case complications. With its rigorous and objective assessment criteria, the OSCE serves as a valid benchmark of participants’ readiness for real-world clinical practice.

The achievements of these two UGM residents highlight the success of the clinical education approach implemented by the Department of Orthodontics, which emphasizes intensive mentoring, real-case learning, and comprehensive skills training. This proves that UGM orthodontics graduates are not only strong in theory but also well-prepared and professional in clinical practice.

This accomplishment contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ensuring safe and high-quality healthcare services through the training of specialist professionals. It also reinforces the role of higher education institutions in producing competent graduates who are ready to practice and capable of meeting high standards of dental healthcare services.

UGM’s success in the OSCE category complements its overall achievements in the 2025 National Orthodontics Competency Examination, reaffirming its position as a leading institution in all aspects of orthodontics specialist education—academic, clinical, and technical.
