Bandung, 24 November 2024 – Heads of Oral Medicine Departments from all Faculties of Dentistry in Indonesia gathered for a national meeting to discuss educational standards and clinical competencies in the field of Oral Medicine. The event was led by Dr. drg. Rochman Mujayanto, Sp.PM, Chair of the National Oral Medicine Council, and was officially opened by Prof. Maharani, Vice Chair of the Oral Medicine Collegium.
The meeting, attended by all Heads of Oral Medicine Departments across Indonesia, focused on key decisions regarding competency standards that dental students must master. A crucial topic of discussion was the 96 types of oral mucosal diseases that should be included as core competencies for future dentists. These standardized guidelines will be implemented nationwide, ensuring that students acquire the necessary knowledge and clinical skills in managing oral diseases.
"This meeting is a crucial step in unifying perceptions regarding the quality of dental education in Indonesia. Through this agreement, we can ensure that medical professionals in Oral Medicine have uniform competency standards and can provide high-quality healthcare services to the public," said Dr. drg. Rochman Mujayanto, Sp.PM.
This initiative strengthens national education standards and highlights the importance of inter-university collaboration in improving healthcare quality. The agreement is expected to create a more structured and relevant curriculum that aligns with public healthcare needs in managing oral health issues. Additionally, the establishment of these standards provides a strong foundation for future research and clinical practice development.
The meeting reflects a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of medical education, ultimately leading to better and more accessible healthcare services across Indonesia.
