The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) hosted a public lecture titled Biocompatibility in Dental Materials: What Every Practitioner Should Knowon Monday, 28 October 2024. The event, held at the Nazir Alwi Building, featured Prof. Dr. Drg. Widowati Siswomihardjo, M.S., from the Department of Dental Biomaterials (IBKG) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM). During the session, Prof. Widowati emphasized the importance of understanding the biocompatibility of dental materials in modern practice.
The lecture was divided into two sessions: the first was aimed at specialist, master's, and doctoral students, while the second involved undergraduate students and lecturers from the Department of Dental Materials at FKG USU.
In her presentation, Prof. Widowati explained the fundamental principles of biocompatibility and shared research findings conducted by her team at UGM. She elaborated on how dental materials can impact oral tissue health, both directly and indirectly. This topic was particularly relevant to students conducting research for their final projects.
"Although the journey from Yogyakarta to Medan was quite exhausting, it was all worth it because of the incredible enthusiasm from the participants. This topic is still relatively new to them, and I am delighted to share valuable knowledge," said Prof. Widowati.
Prof. Widowati's visit to FKG USU exemplifies FKG UGM's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education). Additionally, this collaboration between FKG USU and FKG UGM strengthens academic networking at the national level, contributing to Goal 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal).
This public lecture served as a crucial step in equipping students and lecturers with the latest insights in dental biomaterials while fostering stronger academic ties between FKG USU and FKG UGM.
