Reading books is one of the best investments a student can make. In addition to expanding knowledge, reading also enhances literacy skills (writing and reading), critical thinking, analysis, and creativity. The Library of the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) provides a wide variety of books that can assist students in understanding concepts in dentistry. The following article features three recommended books in the field of orthodontics:
1. “Orthodontic Management of the Developing Dentition”
This book presents in-depth information on orthodontic management during tooth development, including the handling of issues such as caries, space loss, dental trauma, and developmental anomalies. It also explains interceptive management of Class II and III malocclusion, as well as transverse discrepancies.
2. “Textbook for Orthodontic Therapists”
This book discusses orthodontics in an easily understandable format, covering important topics such as types of orthodontic appliances, common orthodontic issues, skeletal assessment, and classification of malocclusion. It is suitable for dental students, orthodontic practitioners, and those pursuing certification in orthodontic therapy.
3. “Essential Orthodontics”
This book serves as a comprehensive introduction to the principles of orthodontics, explaining why, when, and how orthodontic treatment is performed. It is divided into three sections that discuss pre-treatment considerations, principles of treating skeletal and dentoalveolar anomalies, and tissue responses to orthodontic and orthopedic forces.
