Thursday, 17 October 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held the graduation ceremony for the Undergraduate Dental Program. The event, conducted in the Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of the OECF Building, marked a significant milestone for students who have completed their studies and met the requirements for graduation.
The graduation ceremony is a vital event on FKG UGM’s academic calendar, held every three months. For this period, the ceremony was scheduled for 17 October 2024, with the registration window open from 18 September to 8 October, 2024. Students were required to follow established procedures and submit all necessary documents to ensure their eligibility for graduation.
To participate, students must complete all academic requirements and register before the deadline. Afterward, they are also required to register for the subsequent convocation ceremony, which is a separate process. This dual registration ensures that all graduates are properly recognized for their achievements.
Students were informed about the required documents through official circulars. These documents had to be submitted in an envelope by October 8, 2024. By adhering to the procedures, students could ensure their readiness for both graduation and the convocation ceremony at UGM.
This ceremony celebrated the achievements of three students who graduated with cum laude honors, with the highest GPA of 3.9 and an average GPA of 3.24. The average duration of study was 4 years and 6 months. The event also included motivational speeches from lecturers, preparing the graduates for the next phase of their journey as dental interns (co-ass).
Dr. Aryan, from the Undergraduate Dental Program, stated, “Congratulations to all of you on your graduation. Prepare yourselves thoroughly for the dental internship admission exam, so you can pass and continue your studies in November.” Similarly, Dr. Dewi and Dr. Alma emphasized the importance of staying proactive and seeking help when facing challenges. “Don’t hesitate to talk to your peers or lecturers if you encounter difficulties,” Dr. Alma advised. Meanwhile, Dr. Rosa encouraged the graduates to celebrate their achievements and maintain enthusiasm during their internship.
On behalf of the graduates, Zulfatih Sabrina Alya expressed gratitude to the lecturers, saying, “We hope to successfully complete our internships and graduate on time.”
The graduation ceremony not only celebrated academic achievements but also underscored the importance of access to education in developing countries. Education is a fundamental right, and events like this highlight the commitment of institutions like UGM to providing quality education and opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.
In alignment with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and quality education, the Faculty of Dentistry at UGM plays a crucial role. By providing access to education in dentistry, the university contributes to overall health and well-being.
