The Faculty of Dentistry UGM held Teledentistry World Oral Health Day on Tuesday (21/05) in collaboration with RSGM Prof. Soedomo and PT Unilever. The activity, which took place in the CBT Room, on the 5th Floor of the DLC Building, is part of the Faculty's active role in the global campaign for World Oral Health Day which this year adopted the theme "A Happy Mouth is a Happy Body”.
Held from 08.00 to 16.00 WIB, the Teledentistry World Oral Health Day activity involved 21 lecturers from 9 departments (Biomedicine, Oral Medicine, Biomaterials, Prosthodontia, Dental Conservation, Orthodontia, Radiology, Periodontia, and Community Dental Health Sciences-Preventive Dentistry), divided into two sessions. In this community service activity, free oral health consultation services were provided to the community, with a total of 84 patients served.
Teledentistry itself is a dental service that utilizes technology and telecommunications for dental consultation and treatment planning through the exchange of clinical information and remote images. Teledentistry is an alternative solution to bring oral health services closer to people who have limited access due to distance and time.
Through this activity, the experts hope to improve access to dental health services as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of services while providing dental health education and promotion to communities in need.
This expectation was well received by the participating communities. "The consultation went well, the doctor on duty was very friendly and provided the best solution," said one patient. "Hopefully this online consultation can be carried out routinely and more widely disseminated so that patients understand the first aid or actions that must be taken from the disease they suffer."
The activities of Teledentistry World Oral Health Day are closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially pillars 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
