The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) organized the National Competency Examination for the Dentist Professional Education Program (UKOMNAS PPDG) on May 9–10, 2026. A total of 48 participants took part in the examination, which consisted of a Computer Based Test (CBT) and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
This national examination serves as a mandatory instrument for standardizing the quality of dentistry graduates from universities across Indonesia.
drg. Rudy S., Sp.Pros., serving as External Supervisor, stated that UKOMNAS PPDG is an important instrument for equalizing graduation standards. According to him, Indonesia has many dental faculties, so the government must ensure uniform competency standards among graduates through a national examination system.
“UKOMNAS, through the CBT and OSCE examinations, serves as the standard used by all universities to produce competent dentists,” said drg. Rudy.
He explained that students must pass through two stages before earning the title of dentist. First, they must complete all clinical workload requirements established by their respective educational institutions. Only after fulfilling those internal requirements are they eligible to register for UKOMNAS PPDG.
Furthermore, drg. Rudy stated that final graduation depends entirely on the results of this national examination. Participants are required to pass both the theoretical component (CBT) and the practical component (OSCE). Faculties cannot officially confer the dentist title upon students who fail either part of the examination.
“The current UKOMNAS implementation system shows rapid development. The national committee continuously evaluates and improves both the computerized and practical examination systems, making the process far more structured compared to several years ago,” he concluded.
