OSCE Examination for Oral Disease Clerkship at FKG UGM: Preparing Students for Clinical Challenges

Yogyakarta, 25-26 September 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) once again held the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for the Oral Disease Clerkship program, conducted in two sessions. The exam took place at the OSCE Center Lab, 6th floor of the DLC Building at FKG UGM, with 114 students participating.

The OSCE is an essential element of the dental education curriculum, designed to assess students' clinical skills in an environment that simulates real medical situations. All lecturers in the Department of Oral Disease served as examiners, supported by educational staff (tendik) who helped ensure the smooth running of the exam process.

"We hope that this exam can enhance students' clinical competence," said drg. Tjut Intan Permata Sari, Sp.PM., the head of the Oral Disease Clerkship.

According to her, the exam aims to ensure that future dentists possess the necessary skills to provide quality care and prepare them for the challenges of the professional world.

The exam participants recognized the significant benefits of this assessment. “This exam is very challenging, but it also provides valuable experience,” said one student.

This activity not only assists students in their academic assessment but also trains them to face complex clinical situations with greater confidence and composure.

In addition to enhancing students' skills and preparedness, the OSCE exam aligns with FKG UGM's efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 4: Quality Education.

This commitment is reflected in the efforts of the Department of Oral Disease to ensure that each graduate is ready to face real clinical challenges with adequate skills.

Thus, the OSCE exam is not just a method of evaluation but an important step in preparing students to become competent and professional dentists, ready to make a meaningful contribution to public health and support the achievement of the SDGs.
