Yogyakarta, 6 May 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) has strengthened its collaboration with Baitul Maal Wa Tamvil (BMT) Beringharjo to enhance public dental and oral health. The meeting regarding the collaboration plan took place at the Quality Assurance Unit Room, OECF Building, FKG UGM, led by the Vice Dean for Research and Community Service, drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc., Ph.D.
This collaboration has been ongoing since 2022, focusing on community service activities such as dental and oral health check-ups for porters and surrounding communities. In the latest meeting, it was agreed that dental health check-ups and screenings would be conducted for BMT members in the Sleman and Kulonprogo branches, with two sessions held annually, starting with the Sleman branch.
The Vice Dean of FKG UGM emphasized the importance of continuous dental services for BMT Beringharjo members and the need to listen to their health needs. "We hope this program will continue and bring positive impacts to BMT members, both in Yogyakarta and East Java," said drg. Trianna.
Furthermore, the Head of the Professional Program at FKG UGM, Dr. drg. Rurie Ratna Shantiningsih, MD.Sc, added that the program would involve clinical students in providing care at the UGM Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM). The participating students will offer services at affordable rates without compromising the quality of the examination.
This collaboration is expected to raise awareness about dental health among BMT Beringharjo members, provide valuable clinical experience for FKG UGM students, and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
