Enhancing Student Awareness: FKG UGM Conducts Dental Health Education at Blitar Islamic Boarding School

Blitar, 16-17 December 2024 – The Master’s Program in Dental Science (S2 IKG) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), in collaboration with the Kediri Institute of Health Sciences, conducted a community service initiative at Mambaul Hikam II Islamic Boarding School, Blitar Regency. The event aimed to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of oral health care in preventing dental caries.

The two-day program involved lecturers and students from FKG UGM, including Prof. Dr. drg. Juni Handajani, M.Kes., Ph.D., and Dr. drg. Dyah Irnawati, MS. During the event, students participated in dental health education sessions and basic dental check-ups.

"We hope this initiative will help students become more aware of the importance of maintaining oral health," said Prof. Dr. drg. Juni Handajani, M.Kes., Ph.D.

This community outreach program serves as an implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, reflecting the responsibility of healthcare professionals in promoting public health. In addition to enhancing students’ skills in dental hygiene, this initiative aims to instill the habit of proper and regular tooth brushing.

The program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages. Through this initiative, it is hoped that the dental and oral health of students at the boarding school will improve significantly.
