The News Team from the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) participated in a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) organized by UGM on Friday, 9 August 2024. This event aimed to enhance the team's capacity and contribution. Participants included the Head of the Administration Office, news staff, and SDGs representatives from each work unit.
Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA., Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, emphasized the importance of media contributions in advancing SDG achievements. “Ideally, news reporting should not only be a public relations duty but also a responsibility shared by all members of each work unit,” stated Prof. Wening.
Ir. Sentagi Sesotya Utami, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Coordinator of UGM's Reputation Division, mentioned in her presentation that writing popular scientific news can support the implementation of SDGs at UGM. Essentially, the Tridharma (Three Pillars) of Higher Education activities carried out by the university can be linked to SDG indicators. “Writing popular scientific news can support the implementation of SDGs at UGM,” said Sentagi.
Wulansari, S.S., Head of the Administration Office at FKG UGM, noted that this training provided insight into the important role faculties play in supporting the SDGs. “I am confident that with this new knowledge, the FKG UGM SDGs Team can develop communication strategies to involve departments and units within the faculty in contributing to SDG-related news coverage,” said Wulansari.
