The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) sent one of its students, Tiffany, to participate in a student exchange program at Tokushima University, Japan, in 2023. This program aims to broaden students' global perspectives, strengthen international networks, and enhance competencies in the field of dentistry.
During the program, Tiffany took part in various academic activities, including clinical training in prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry. She also participated in Ph.D. student research observations and visited private dental clinics outside the campus. These activities were designed to provide hands-on experience in different aspects of dentistry, both academically and professionally.
According to Tiffany, the program significantly boosted her enthusiasm for learning and opened new perspectives on her future career in dentistry. "This experience has made me even more curious to explore various aspects of this profession, from public health and material development to the possibility of opening my own clinic," she said (26/11).
Through student exchange programs, FKG UGM hopes its students can strengthen their global competencies and bring international insights into dental education and practice in Indonesia. "Student exchange is a way to build lasting enthusiasm for this profession," she added.
Beyond academic experiences, Tiffany also engaged in cultural activities such as the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and a tour of the Iya Valley. She also built connections with international students through the International Friendship Room (IFR), a platform that fosters intercultural interaction.
