Dental Instrumentation Examination

On Tuesday, 26 November 2024, dental hygiene students gathered at the Dental Unit Lab on the third floor of the DLC to take a crucial examination focused on dental instrumentation. This exam marks a significant milestone in their academic journey, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which ensures that future dental professionals are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Students had spent weeks preparing for this examination, studying various dental instruments used in Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Orthodontics. The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills, essential for their careers in dental hygiene. This exam not only assesses their theoretical understanding but also evaluates their ability to apply this knowledge in practical scenarios.

As the exam commenced, students took their positions around the lab, moving through different stations, each equipped with questions related to the instruments they had studied. This format allows them to rotate between stations, creating a dynamic and engaging examination experience that promotes active learning and critical thinking—key components of an effective education.

The examination was supervised by experienced lecturers and lab assistants, who provided guidance and support throughout the process. Lecturers emphasized the importance of understanding the function and application of each instrument, as this knowledge is crucial for delivering quality dental care. Their involvement reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering an educational environment that prioritizes student success and professional growth.

Beyond testing their knowledge, this exam aims to instill confidence in students as they prepare to enter the professional field. Access to quality education, as emphasized by the SDGs, plays a vital role in shaping competent healthcare professionals who can make a meaningful impact on society. The skills acquired during this examination will serve as a foundation for their future practice in dental hygiene.

As students completed the exam, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive academic environment. This examination not only assessed their competencies but also reinforced the importance of collaboration and teamwork among peers.

The exam results will be announced in the coming weeks, and students eagerly anticipate feedback on their performance. This feedback will be crucial in guiding their future studies and professional development. The faculty is committed to providing constructive critiques to help students refine their skills and excel in their future endeavors.

The Dental Instrumentation Examination serves as a testament to the dedication of both students and faculty in pursuing educational excellence. It highlights the significance of access to quality education in shaping the future of healthcare professionals. As these students continue their journey, they carry with them the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact in the field of dental hygiene.
