Strengthening academic ties across nations, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) hosted the Tokushima Alumni Meeting on 26 November 2024. This event served as a platform for alumni to share experiences and foster collaboration with Tokushima University. It was attended by 17 lecturers of FKG UGM who are Tokushima University alumni, as well as Academic Assistants.
Prof. Kin (Jin) Cheng Hai, representing Tokushima University, expressed his delight in visiting FKG UGM. During his visit, he sought to learn more about the career paths of FKG UGM lecturers who had studied at Tokushima University. "I also want to hear alumni perspectives on research opportunities and educational scholarships," he stated.
Speaking before Prof. Kin and all attendees, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., an alumnus of Tokushima University, shared his experiences studying there. Prof. Suryono graduated from Tokushima University in 2004, and after completing his studies, his career as a lecturer progressed rapidly. His education at Tokushima provided a strong foundation for achieving numerous academic and professional milestones.
In early 2022, Prof. Suryono was appointed as Dean of FKG UGM, followed by his promotion to professor in 2023. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Indonesian Dental Association. "This gathering is an important moment for alumni to reconnect and also to inspire young lecturers to pursue further studies," he remarked.
Prof. Kin expressed his enthusiasm upon hearing the success stories of the alumni. "Tokushima alumni at FKG UGM are truly remarkable. After graduating, they have established great careers," he said. He also reaffirmed Tokushima University’s openness to supporting FKG UGM lecturers who wish to pursue doctoral studies there.
The event continued with a Lab Tour at the Dental Learning Center (DLC) Building of FKG UGM. Prof. Kin was highly impressed by the modern facilities and advanced equipment that support education, research, and clinical practice in dentistry. This visit further strengthened the partnership between FKG UGM and Tokushima University, focusing on educational development, research, and human resource advancement.
