Yogyakarta, 6 November 2024 – Prof. Soedomo Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a social service event titled "Orthodontists' Contribution to the Nation". This initiative provided free braces installation for individuals in need, particularly those facing financial constraints.
A team of orthodontists, comprising specialist dentists and orthodontic residents from the Specialist Dental Education Program (PPDGS Orthodontics), worked together to provide high-quality treatment while also educating patients on oral health. The event commenced at 8:00 AM WIB with patient registration, where participants of various ages, from teenagers to adults requiring orthodontic care, were welcomed.
The medical team conducted comprehensive dental and jaw examinations before consulting patients on the most suitable orthodontic treatment for them. In addition to braces installation, the orthodontists provided guidance on maintaining oral hygiene, caring for braces, and the importance of regular orthodontic check-ups for successful treatment outcomes.
Beyond treatment, the event aimed to raise public awareness about the significance of oral health. The medical team educated attendees on habits to avoid during orthodontic treatment, such as consuming certain foods that could damage braces, and informed them about available orthodontic care options.
The initiative was met with appreciation from patients and the surrounding community. Many expressed their gratitude for the free services, emphasizing how this event not only assisted underprivileged individuals but also demonstrated RSGM Prof. Soedomo's commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality healthcare services.
The organizing committee extended their thanks to all parties involved in making this event a success, including the Department of Orthodontics staff, orthodontic residents, and the management of RSGM Prof. Soedomo. This event is expected to inspire similar initiatives in the future, ensuring more people can benefit from quality orthodontic treatment without financial burdens.
Through this program, RSGM Prof. Soedomo UGM actively supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequality), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
