At the end of the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, the Periodontics Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), completed its monitoring and evaluation (M&E) process.
Monitoring dan evaluasi ini bertujuan untuk mengumpulkan umpan balik dari mahasiswa mengenai efektivitas proses pembelajaran dan praktikum yang telah mereka jalani selama semester tersebut.
Using an online form with five response options—ranging from strongly agree to don't know—students evaluated various aspects of the learning process.
The evaluation results were presented through a dissemination session, which can also be accessed via YouTube through the link for the Periodontics Program Even Semester 2023/2024 Report, ensuring that the information and feedback are widely shared.
Here are the summarized M&E results along with the critiques and suggestions for improvement:
Overall Student Satisfaction
The majority of students provided positive responses regarding the learning process. According to the evaluation, seven students strongly agreed that the learning activities were effective, the facilities were adequate, students had the opportunity to actively participate, and assessment transparency was maintained.
Additionally, aspects such as the alignment of materials with learning objectives and the timely implementation of activities received strong approval.
Use of Learning Media and Materials
Six students strongly agreed, and one student agreed with the use of learning media. This indicates that the materials presented were easy to understand and relevant to learning objectives, with the teaching methods deemed effective by the students.
Student Suggestions for Improvement
In addition to positive feedback, students also provided several critiques and suggestions for improvement. These included the proposal for additional offline lectures or practical sessions on statistical tests and complex periodontal surgery cases.
They also requested more practical sessions on implant techniques and handling periodontal cases related to systemic diseases.
Facility and Guidance Improvements
Some students hoped for better patient case facilities and more adequate operational spaces. Additionally, there were suggestions for more lecturer guidance in case studies and writing scientific reports.
Schedule Coordination and Ethics
Students recommended better coordination of lecture schedules, especially for lecturers from outside the study program. While students felt that the course material delivered by lecturers was good, they also recommended additional lectures on clinical decision-making in periodontal cases and ethics in the clinic.
Publications and Research
Students also emphasized the importance of improving scientific writing guidance, including journal publication, and subscribing to high-quality periodontics journals. This was deemed vital to supporting research quality in the field of periodontics.
Community Service
Apart from academic aspects, students suggested that community service activities more frequently involve partner hospitals, to broaden the reach and positive impact of such activities.
