One Step Ahead : FKG UGM Develops UGM Cadre Application, Innovation Prof. Dr. drg. Regina TC. Tandelilin, MSc and Team

The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) supports Prof. Dr. drg. Regina Titi Christinawati Tandelilin, M.Sc as the initiator of the KaderMu UGM application, collaborated with PT Cipta Medika Informasi as her partner. KaderMU UGM Application, a digital platform designed to increase the capacity of health cadres in the community.

Prof. Dr. drg. Regina Titi Christinawati Tandelilin, M.Sc as the main initiator with the team of Dr. drg. Indra Bramanti, M.Sc., Sp.KGA (K-PKOA) and Dr. Leny Pratiwi Arie S, SKpG, MDSc have tried to develop education for dental and child health cadres through the KaderMu UGM application. This application is an interactive learning medium that helps health cadres to understand the basics of children's dental and oral health.

The development of the innovation is carried out through the 2025 Innovation Development Grant (HPI) as part of the collaboration between Gadjah Mada University and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), through the Program Promoting Research and Innovation through Modern and Efficient Science and Technology Parks (PRIMESTeP). This grant program is designed to strengthen the national innovation system and encourage downstream research through collaboration between academia, industry, and the community.

Prof. Regina explained that cadres are the frontline of health services in the community, making the enhancement of their knowledge highly important. “Cadres work directly in the field. Through this application, we want them to have the same standard of understanding and to be able to provide proper education to the community,” she said (10/11).

Furthermore, Prof. Regina stated that the application also represents an innovation by FKG UGM in supporting digital transformation in the field of public health, in line with the university’s commitment to delivering science-based solutions that have a tangible impact on society.

Meanwhile, Farid Agung, a member of the KaderMU UGM application development team, explained that the idea for creating the application stemmed from the awareness that cadres are often not experts or certified medical personnel, yet they play an important role in disseminating health education within their communities.

On various field occasions, Farid and his team frequently encountered health cadres who demonstrated high enthusiasm but had not been sufficiently equipped with adequate basic knowledge in health. Observing this condition led to the establishment of the KaderMU UGM program as a structured learning platform that provides cadres with foundational health knowledge and skills.

The first module in KaderMU focuses on dental and oral health education. It includes learning class features, illustrated reading modules, and interactive quizzes that must be completed to obtain a certificate. “Each participant must answer at least 80 percent of the quiz questions correctly to receive a UGM cadre certificate. So they are not just ordinary cadres, but cadres who carry the name of UGM,” he explained.

At the initial stage, KaderMU is still being piloted in two regions as a pilot project. Participant registration is still conducted manually so that developers can monitor the learning process and anticipate technical obstacles. “Our hope is that in the future, this application can be made publicly accessible so that it can be utilized by health cadres throughout Indonesia,” he concluded.
