Dr. drg. Rurie Ratna Shantiningsih, M.DSc earned the third-best score in the Structured Oral Case Analysis (SOCA) examination. This exam, held in Surabaya on 30 June–1 July 2025, was part of the series of competency assessments for the dental radiology specialist program.
SOCA is a structured case-based assessment method designed to measure the clinical skills and analytical ability of candidates. It is one of the crucial stages in completing specialist training in dental radiology.
Since 2022, Rurie has been pursuing her specialist education in dental radiology at Universitas Airlangga. She chose this path to strengthen her capacity, deepen her knowledge, and meet the needs of the institution where she currently works.
The proverb “after hardship comes ease” best illustrates her journey. Not only is she a resident student, but she also serves as the Head of the Dentist Profession Education Program at her home institution.
Balancing these roles was made possible, she admits, thanks to reliable and supportive colleagues who shared responsibilities effectively.
Despite financial challenges from frequently commuting between Yogyakarta and Surabaya—on top of institutional duties—her determination to complete her studies on time only grew stronger.
She attributes her success in the SOCA exam to time management and multitasking. “After fulfilling my responsibilities as a lecturer, I cannot forget my obligations as a resident student to keep studying,” Rurie explained.
Achieving the third-best score in SOCA is not only an academic milestone but also a testament to her resilience in overcoming challenges. “I am truly grateful to finally complete the toughest academic task of my entire educational journey,” she concluded.
