Hanoi, 17-18 October 2024 – At The 15th Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology (APSP) Meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam, a resident from the Periodontics Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), had the opportunity to share research findings on an international stage.
The seminar, themed Contemporary Concepts in Comprehensive Periodontal Management, served as an important platform for periodontal experts and students from various countries in the Asia-Pacific region to engage in discussions and share knowledge.
drg. Dharmmesti Anindita Wijayanti, MDSc, a resident in the Periodontics Specialist Program at FKG UGM, participated by presenting a research poster titled "Synergistic Effects of Collagen-Chitosan Hydrogels and PRF on Functional Group Absorption."
This innovative research examines the potential of combining collagen-chitosan hydrogel with Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) to enhance functional group absorption in periodontal care. The research was also a final project under the guidance of drg. Kwartarini Murdiastuti, Sp.Perio., SubSp. R.P.I.D (K), Ph.D, and drg. Vincensia Maria Karina, MDSc., Sp.Perio, SubSp. M.P.(K).
drg. Anindita's participation in the APSP Meeting demonstrates the commitment of the Periodontics Specialist Program at FKG UGM to support resident development by encouraging their active involvement in international conferences. This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, Quality Education, by promoting sustainable and high-quality education in dentistry.
By presenting her research on an international platform, drg. Anindita not only expanded her knowledge in periodontology but also created opportunities for global collaboration.
Interactions like these play a key role in developing international perspectives on dental health and improving the quality of education and research in this field.
drg. Anindita's research also highlights the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in periodontology, especially through the use of biocompatible and sustainable materials such as collagen and chitosan.
This innovative combination aligns with modern trends in periodontology, focusing on eco-friendly materials that could potentially improve dental treatment outcomes.
FKG UGM remains committed to supporting residents in their academic and professional development, including through participation in international conferences. This initiative not only enriches residents’ educational experiences but also makes a significant contribution to improving oral health in the Asia-Pacific region.
