Facing complex issues in the field of dentistry requires not only theoretical mastery but also deep practical experience. Therefore, the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) continues to encourage students in the Specialist Doctoral Program in Dental Conservation (PPDGS) to enrich their clinical experience. One such effort is realized through an internship program that began on 29 August 2024, at RSUP Dr. Sardjito, Yogyakarta, a national referral hospital handling complex medical cases.
During the internship, residents are equipped with an orientation on hospital protocols and the challenges often faced by patients with more complicated health conditions. This process helps strengthen students' clinical skills in communicating with patients, evaluating health histories in depth, and ensuring appropriate and effective dental care. The internship also provides direct exposure to handling medical cases that require specific treatments, adding value to their understanding and clinical skills.
With this experience, students not only practice applying theory but also contribute directly to the community by enhancing the quality of life for patients. The close collaboration between FKG UGM and RSUP Dr. Sardjito underscores the importance of partnerships in supporting clinical education and creating broader opportunities for better healthcare services in the future.
Through this internship activity, FKG UGM also supports sustainable development programs or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It is hoped that this initiative will continue to grow, enabling residents to face challenges in the increasingly complex field of dental practice while making a tangible contribution to improving oral health in the community.
