Bandung, December 5–6, 2025 — Residents of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Specialist Program (PPDGS) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), once again achieved outstanding national recognition. At the ADOMS (Advanced Development of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) Championship, organized by PABMI West Java at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung, FKG UGM representatives secured First Place and Second Place in the Oral Presentation – Case Report category.
This annual scientific event brings together OMS residents and academics from training centers across Indonesia. In 2025, ADOMS featured a scientific research competition comprising two main formats—oral presentations and posters—each divided into case report, systematic review, and original research categories. All presentations were held on Friday (December 5), with the winners announced the following day.
Dual Achievements by FKG UGM
FKG UGM sent two residents to compete in the Oral Presentation – Case Report category: drg. Hamzah Sukma Anggoro and drg. Fandy Muhammad. Both delivered strong performances and claimed the top two positions in a competition involving six participants from various universities and hospitals.
Hamzah, a 2023 cohort resident, explained that preparation began intensively in August 2025. “The process involved abstract preparation, full manuscript writing, and presentation development, all conducted through regular discussions with supervisors,” he said. He was supervised by drg. Pingky Krisna Arindra, Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Ped.O.M.(K) and drg. Didit Istadi, Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Ped.O.Mf.(K).
Meanwhile, drg. Fandy Muhammad, born in Batam on November 18, 1993, and originally from Cirebon, West Java, shared a similar preparation journey. His presentation addressed the management of a neglected mandibular condyle fracture that had remained untreated for two months. The competition process began with discussions with supervisors, followed by abstract preparation, full paper writing, and presentation development. Fandy was supervised by Dr. drg. Bramasto Purbo Sejati, Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Tr.Mf.S.Tm.(K) and drg. Poerwati Soetji Rahajoe, Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Tr.Mf.S.Tm.(K), Ph.D.
Challenges in the Competition
Both Hamzah and Fandy acknowledged that the greatest challenge was the limited presentation time. Fandy explained, “With only five minutes, we had to explain the case comprehensively while remaining prepared to answer questions from three external examiners—from USU, Unhas, and Unair. Responses had to be precise, both theoretically and clinically.”

A Highly Competitive Event with Strong Enthusiasm
ADOMS 2025 was attended by participants from seven universities offering OMS specialist programs in Indonesia. This year’s competition recorded 17 poster participants and 13 oral presentation participants, reflecting growing interest among OMS residents in scientific competency development.
Beyond competition, the event also served as a platform for networking and experience sharing. “This competition was enjoyable and full of learning opportunities. I also met many colleagues and outstanding speakers, especially in discussions related to TMJ topics,” Hamzah remarked
Fandy shared an encouraging message for OMS residents and students aspiring to follow their path. “Stay motivated, confident, calm, and practice delivering material efficiently. Make the most of the time available,” he said.
The success of the FKG UGM OMS team reaffirms the faculty’s continuously advancing academic and clinical quality, while also fostering a healthy culture of scientific competition among Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents in Indonesia.
