Strategic Plan for Adjusting the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program to Hospital-Based Disruptions

The Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), successfully held a strategic workshop on Saturday, 14 December 2024, at the IUP Room, FKG UGM. This event aimed to evaluate the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum and adapt the specialist training to address challenges posed by the hospital-based education system.

The workshop featured Prof. drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D., as the keynote speaker, who provided in-depth insights into the strategic adjustments required for the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program to navigate disruptions in dental education. The session was moderated by drg. Anrizandy Narwidina, MDSc., Sp.KGA., Ph.D., ensuring an engaging and interactive discussion.

Participants, including lecturers and students, discussed the importance of curriculum development to meet the complexities of the modern healthcare sector. "Curriculum adjustments are not just a necessity but a critical strategy to ensure graduates can adapt to the ever-evolving healthcare system," said Prof. drg. Rosa Amalia.

The workshop also highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between educational institutions, hospitals, and community organizations to create a more comprehensive learning experience. Participants explored how these partnerships can drive innovation and practical applications of knowledge in the healthcare industry.

The session provided attendees with the opportunity to discuss challenges in implementing hospital-based curricula and explore innovative solutions. Additionally, participants appreciated the professional networking opportunities offered by the workshop, allowing them to share experiences and build a strong community of practice.

The Strategic Plan for Adjusting the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program is a concrete step in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – by ensuring better healthcare education for all; SDG 4: Quality Education – by developing an adaptive and innovative curriculum; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by strengthening cross-sector collaborations to address global healthcare challenges.
