Opening of the 19th PSMKGI National Pre-Assembly
Amid increasingly complex health education dynamics, dental students from across Indonesia gathered in Yogyakarta. For three days, hundreds of delegates attended the 19th Pre-National Assembly (Pramunas) of the Indonesian Dental Student Senate Association (PSMKGI)—a forum not merely organizational, but a space for evaluation, consolidation, and sharpening the direction of the dental student movement.
This year’s Pramunas was attended by 173 delegates from 35 dental education institutions nationwide. The forum served as a moment of accountability for the PSMKGI executive board at mid-term, as well as a venue for formulating strategic decisions moving forward.

Christopher Daru Wicaksono, Chair of PSMKGI XIX, emphasized in his remarks that Pramunas is not merely a routine biennial event. It is an instrument for maintaining accountability and ensuring cross-period program continuity. With a theme emphasizing cooperation, responsibility, and harmony, the forum aimed to strengthen synergy among students, faculties, and supporting institutions.

Institutional support was also evident. Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKG UGM, Prof. Rosa Amalia, positioned student organizations as character-building spaces. Active involvement amid dense academic schedules is not an additional burden, but a process of leadership and decision-making learning relevant to professional life.
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s dentists,” she stated, reminding that professionalism is built not only on clinical competence but also social sensitivity, cross-difference collaboration, and unity amid diverse perspectives.

From the national organizational side, PSMKGI Secretary General drg. Abhit Dian Maulana highlighted Pramunas as a performance evaluation forum during the two-year leadership term. The forum involved active members and representatives from newly joined institutions. A total of 45 institutions are now connected within the PSMKGI network, reflecting expanded national participation.
Performance evaluation, he emphasized, is essential to ensure organizational relevance and adaptability. Decisions made at Pramunas are expected to translate into concrete actions strengthening dental students’ roles in education, professional issues, and public health.

Beyond sessions and reports, the 19th Pramunas showcased another dimension of student movement: a meeting space across regions, cultures, and perspectives. In Yogyakarta—long recognized as a national education hub—students from Sabang to Merauke gathered to discuss and nurture collective spirit.
In this context, Pramunas reflects today’s student organizational challenges: maintaining idealism amid academic and professional demands, while ensuring organizations remain arenas for democratic and leadership learning. For dental students, this forum is not only about today—it is about preparing for greater responsibilities ahead.
