Prof. Sheng-Wei Feng Presented Impression Techniques for Removable Partial Dentures

Impression techniques for removable partial dentures, particularly the use of impressions in the anterior and posterior areas. Prof. Sheng-Wei Feng from Taipei Medical University, in his Guest Lecture at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada on 21 August 2025, emphasized that although textbooks suggest avoiding impressions in the posterior area, clinical experience shows that this technique is effective if positioned correctly. The forum also discussed digital impression techniques, noting that although digital methods have limitations in detecting soft tissue characteristics and managing undercuts, these methods are suitable for cases with short scanning times and minimal bone resorption.

Application of 3D Printing Technology

Prof. Sheng discussed the application of 3D printing technology in dental procedures, highlighting its advantages such as time efficiency, accuracy, and better outcomes. He explained the process of making digital impressions and dentures, and underlined that while 3D printing offers significant benefits, the method still faces challenges such as color accuracy and requires careful parameter adjustments.
