The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada proudly announces the promotion of Prof. Dr. drg. Dewi Agustina, MD.Sc. MD.Sc. to the rank of Professor in the field of Geriatric Oral Diseases (1/9). This appointment is a recognition of her exceptional dedication and contributions in the academic, research, and community service fields, particularly in oral health for the elderly (geriatrics).
Prof. Dewi Agustina has been a lecturer at the Department of Oral Diseases, Faculty of Dentistry, UGM since 1989, and has consistently made significant impacts in the field of dentistry. Her education includes a Bachelor's and Professional Degree in Dentistry from the Faculty of Dentistry, UGM (1987), a Master's from the School of Dental Science, Melbourne University, Australia (1996), a Clinical Dentistry Program (PS IKGK) from UGM (2012), and a Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from UGM (2007), all completed with honors.
Throughout her career, she has developed a deep interest in Geriatric Dentistry, particularly since 2010. Her primary research focus includes xerostomia-hyposalivation and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). “My research in the field of oral health for the elderly aims to improve their quality of life and better understand the impact of oromaxillofacial disorders related to aging,” said Prof. Dewi.
Over the years, she has been an active speaker and resource person at various national and international scientific forums, sharing her knowledge and research findings related to Oral Diseases and Geriatric Dentistry. She has also served as the Head of the Department of Oral Diseases at FKG UGM and as the Chair of the Integrated Geriatric Clinic Service at the UGM Prof. Soedomo Dental Teaching Hospital.
In addition, Prof. Dewi Agustina plays a key role in educating the next generation of dentists through various study programs at UGM, including the Bachelor's and Professional Dentistry Program and Postgraduate Programs in several faculties at UGM.
The promotion of Prof. Dr. drg. Dewi Agustina, MD.Sc. MD.Sc. to the rank of Professor is not only a personal achievement but also a recognition of her significant contribution to the development of geriatric dentistry in Indonesia. Prof. Dewi remains committed to improving oral health in the elderly population through research and community service, especially supporting SDG Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
