Dental Hygiene Practicum I: Clinical and Client Preparation and Ergonomic Positioning

On Tuesday, 20 August 2024, third-semester students of the Dental Hygiene study program at Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted the Dental Hygiene I Practicum with the theme "Clinical and Client Preparation and Ergonomic Positioning" at the Dental Unit DLC Laboratory, 3rd floor. The purpose of this activity was to enhance students' adherence to standard precautions in preparing the patient treatment area.

During the practicum, students were trained to identify treatment areas, operate dental chairs, and prepare instruments and client positioning before the examination begins. They were also taught how to clean and organize equipment after the client leaves the treatment room. Additionally, the implementation of ergonomic principles during examinations was a key focus to prevent work-related injuries and ensure comfort in clinical practice.

Through a series of structured activities, the practicum aims to equip students not only with technical skills but also with an understanding of the importance of professionalism and safety standards in a clinical environment. This practicum is part of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education).
