The Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center hosted the 17th Indonesian Association of Orthodontists Annual Meeting from 19 to 21 September 2024. This international seminar served as a platform for orthodontic specialists, researchers, and participants from the Specialist Dental Education Program (PPDGS) from across Indonesia and abroad. With the motto “Embracing the Current Contemporary Approach in Multidisciplinary Orthodontics,” the event focused on cutting-edge and innovative multidisciplinary approaches in orthodontics.

At this event, the PPDGS Orthodontics at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) achieved remarkable success, with four participants nominated as finalists for oral presentations in both the Research and Case Report categories of the Scientific Poster Competition. The four participants were:

2. drg. Aulia Ayub, Sp.Ort (Case Report dan Research)

In addition to the scientific poster competition, the event featured various scientific discussion sessions led by national and international speakers who shared insights on the latest trends in orthodontics. The presence of these distinguished speakers provided an opportunity for participants to broaden their knowledge and exchange ideas in both clinical and academic contexts.

The success of the PPDGS Orthodontics at FKG UGM in securing nominations at this event is a point of pride and further strengthens the institution's position as one of the best in Indonesia in the field of orthodontics. This achievement aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in biomedical education and global partnerships.

The event not only emphasizes the importance of education in developing countries but also promotes global partnerships among orthodontic professionals. By sharing knowledge and experiences, participants can contribute to the advancement of orthodontic practice worldwide, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.

Furthermore, the focus on a multidisciplinary approach in orthodontics reflects an emerging trend in the field, where collaboration among various specialties is essential for comprehensive patient management. This aligns with the SDGs’ emphasis on Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), and Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

It is hoped that this event will inspire future generations of orthodontists and dental professionals, encouraging them to engage in research and innovation. The commitment to excellence demonstrated by the PPDGS Orthodontics at FKG UGM serves as a model for other institutions, highlighting the importance of fostering a culture of research and collaboration in the pursuit of knowledge.
