Periodontics Program at FKG UGM Develops Follow-Up Action Plan Based on Semester Evaluation Results

On Tuesday (3/12/2024), the Periodontics Study Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held a meeting to develop a follow-up action plan based on the results of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of learning activities for the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year. The M&E process, conducted by the Semester Coordination Team, gathered student feedback regarding both theoretical and practical learning throughout the semester.

During the evaluation, students provided several suggestions for improvement, including expanding practical sessions to cover statistical analysis, periodontal disease management and decision-making, complex periodontal surgery techniques, and implants.

Improving class scheduling to ensure better time management, updating laboratory equipment and materials to reflect the latest advancements in periodontics, and enhancing support for academic writing, particularly through structured mentorship programs.

Based on these findings, the Periodontics Study Program plans to implement the following actions:

  1. Conducting periodontal surgery practical sessions/skills labs in alignment with the curriculum.
  2. Coordinating guest lecturers from outside the department at the start of the semester through learning contracts.
  3. Involving residents in planning the update of periodontal tools and materials.
  4. Enhancing alumni participation in update knowledge-sharing and skill development initiatives.
  5. Providing structured academic writing mentorship, with an expected outcome of producing publishable manuscripts.

"We hope these follow-up actions run smoothly and yield the best outcomes for the future of the Periodontics Study Program," said drg. Kwartarini Murdiastuti, Sp.Perio., Subsp.R.P.I.D (K), Ph.D., Head of the Specialist Periodontics Study Program at FKG UGM.

This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by incorporating active student feedback to strengthen FKG UGM’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment.
