Detail Engineering Design (DED) Planning for the Reconstruction of the Harkati Dewanto Building and Subagyo HW Building, Faculty of Dentistry UGM

The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), will undertake the reconstruction of the Harkati Dewanto Building and the Subagyo HW Building. Given the increasingly intensive and growing academic activities at FKG UGM, the faculty requires facilities that are representative, modern, and environmentally friendly. Present at the planning discussion were the Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Suyono, SH, MM, Ph.D., the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, drg. Margareta Rinastiti, M.Kes., Sp.KG Subsp. KR(K)., Ph.D., along with staff from the administrative and finance units of FKG UGM.

Constructing a building requires careful, structured, and systematic planning through several stages:

  1. Stage I (Technical Concept): Identification of needs and issues, including soil investigation; assessment of site conditions, including field measurements; data collection from users; formulation of the best and most efficient design concept; preparation of design programs and cost estimates; and scheduling of design activities.
  2. Stage II (Preliminary Technical Plan): Site and layout drawings; spatial organization and alternative room arrangements; elevation views and perspectives; longitudinal and cross-sectional drawings; architectural resolution of the building; preliminary structural and MEP technical reports; and rough estimated budget (RAB).
  3. Stage III (Technical Plan Development): Site plan and space relationships; detailed floor plans (scale 1:100); facade and material specifications; sectional drawings and installation layouts (various scales); technical reports and soil test results; and detailed cost estimation based on market price surveys.
  4. Stage IV (Detailed Drawings & Procurement Documents): Complete working drawings (architecture, structure, MEP, landscape, etc.); detailed technical component drawings; complete technical specifications (administrative, technical, and bill of quantities/BOQ); comprehensive structural calculations; final design report; and physical scale model preparation.
  5. Stage V (Tender Process): Work briefings; revision of tender documents and BOQ; budget adjustment if required.
  6. Stage VI (Periodic Supervision): Verification of building layout, dimensions, and appearance; inspection of installation placements and paint colors; suggestions or alternatives for room modifications; and monitoring of physical construction progress.

Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Suyono, SH, MM, Ph.D., stated, “This DED serves as the fundamental basis for the reconstruction of the Harkati Dewanto and Subagyo HS Buildings. It is prepared by experts in their respective fields and aligned with the future operational needs of FKG UGM. Therefore, we must jointly ensure consistency in the implementation of this DED, minimizing the need for revisions during construction. Ultimately, the goal is to support academic excellence at FKG UGM.”
