The Department of Pediatric Dentistry (IKGA), Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), held a workshop to develop the clinical profession curriculum for Pediatric Dentistry. The event took place at Grand Rohan Hotel on 11-12 October 2024, and was attended by lecturers from the IKGA Department at FKG UGM.
This workshop marked the second phase of the 36-credit curriculum reform for the Dental Professional Program. The goal was to develop a curriculum that not only meets educational standards but also fosters creativity and innovation among future dental professionals.
Over two days, participants engaged in discussions and brainstorming sessions on integrating new technologies and methodologies into dental education. One of the key outcomes was the design of a 3-credit clinical profession curriculum for Pediatric Dentistry, totaling 135 hours of coursework over 20 days.
“This curriculum is designed to ensure students not only master technical skills but also develop critical and creative thinking abilities,” stated Prof. Drg. Sri Kuswandari, MS, Sp.KGA(K-KKA), Ph.D., who presented the curriculum framework. She emphasized the importance of aligning the curriculum with global standards to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The workshop also served as a collaborative forum where educators shared experiences and best practices. “Collaborative efforts like this are essential to ensuring the curriculum remains relevant and responsive to the challenges of modern dentistry,” added Prof. Kuswandari.
As a significant step in educational reform, this curriculum aims to prepare graduates to face challenges in the healthcare sector and contribute to improving community well-being. Through this initiative, FKG UGM supports the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
