On Thursday (6/3), the Dentist Profession Education Program of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), held a preparatory session for new dental graduates. The participants were students of the Dentist Profession Education Program at FKG UGM who had passed the National Competency Examination for Indonesian Dentists (UKMP2DG) and were scheduled to be inaugurated on 13 March 2025.
The event featured Drg. Vincensia Maria Karina, MDSc., Sp.Perio, known as Drg. Vicky, a lecturer in the Department of Periodontology at FKG UGM. She emphasized the importance of the session, saying, "Friends, I won’t be giving a lecture today. Instead, I’ll be sharing my experiences at the start of my journey as a dentist."
According to Drg. Vicky, after becoming a dentist, there are various career paths one can pursue, such as continuing education to a higher level, becoming a researcher, clinician, entrepreneur, or even a lecturer. “Each profession certainly has its own advantages, but my advice is to start from the basiclevel,” she concluded.
In addition to the sharingsession, the new dental graduates also received guidance on the .phase, a mandatory stage following inauguration. This session was led by Prof. Drg. Tetiana Haniastuti, M.Kes., Ph.D. She explained, “The purpose of theinternship internship is to support new dentists. When working in the community, a dentist never knows what kind of cases they will face.” During the . internship, new dentists will work at a hospital or government health center (Puskesmas) for six months under the supervision of an appointed senior dentist. “Remember, the appointed dentist is no longer fully responsible for every case, but acts as a supervisor,” she added .She also emphasized the importance of maintaining the good reputation of their alma mater.
In addition to the above speakers, the Head of the Master’s Program in Dental Science (IKG) and the Head of the Master’s Program in Clinical Dental Science (IKGK) at FKG UGM also gave an overview of potential career paths for dentists. The event concluded with a coaching clinic on dental equipment conducted by PT. Cobra Dental.
