Community Service “Balikin Senyum” with Polident in Sleman

The Department of Prosthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), in collaboration with Polident, once again organized a community service event themed "Balikin Senyum"(Bring Back the Smile). The event took place at the Mlati District Office, Sleman, Yogyakarta, on 11 August 2024. This activity marked the beginning of a series of events focused on dental examinations and denture impressions, which will be fitted in September.

The community service event included free dental check-ups, denture impressions, oral health education, and various entertainment activities for the public. A total of 22 out of the targeted 125 patients successfully had their denture impressions taken on-site, while the remaining patients will continue the process at RSGM UGM Prof. Soedomo. Out of 228 patients who underwent examinations, 135 were deemed eligible for denture production, while 93 did not meet the criteria.

Additionally, a talk show was presented by prosthodontic residents, providing the community with practical knowledge on the importance of oral health. One of the event coordinators, Drg. Nadya Kurnia Putri, stated, "This activity aims to raise public awareness of the importance of oral health. We hope the community can experience the tangible benefits of this service.”

The event involved lecturers and residents from the Prosthodontics Department, clinical dentistry students (co-ass), undergraduate students from FKG UGM, and lecturers and residents from the Department of Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry (IPM). This collaboration reflects FKG UGM’s commitment to making a real impact on society.

Through this initiative, FKG UGM supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by improving access to dental health services, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through health education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering strategic partnerships between educational institutions and private sector partners.
